Book Review: The CEO Next Door

The CEO Next Door by Elena Botelho & Kim Powell

Becoming a CEO has never really been my career objective, but this book certainly makes it feel within the realm of possibilities. The CEO Next Door is an easy read, if you have any leadership ambitions it’s worth the investment in time.

The book is broken up into bite-size chapters and case studies around specific CEO’s stories. The beauty of this book is it’s based on data, not just a few outliers stories. While the average person may think of Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, or Elon Musk as the gold standard, The CEO Next door uses data to prove them wrong.

My big takeaway was anyone can be a CEO; it’s not about smarts, likability, confidence, or what school you went to; it’s all about being reliable. If you say you’re going to do something and do it, people will follow.
